Times are a Changing

Music has been around just as long as man has roamed this earth. When God was resting on the 7th day he was resting and relaxing with the help of music.

Today, with the advancement of the IPod and many other different types of MP3 players the vinyl record is making a comeback. I myself have a collection of vinyl that consists of a little over 100 records. The way music sounds on vinyl is so much better than all the digitally remastered CDs that have been promoted.

Vinyl sounds so raw and I absolutely love the feeling of being in the record studio as these were being recorded. Artists that release their most recent CDs on vinyl also make digital download available so you can have the vinyl and put it on your computer. Many record players now come with a CD slot and make it possible to record your vinyl straight to a CD and upload on your computer for a reasonably low price.

I love having my IPod, it makes it possible to listen to my music, or I like to call it, the “sound track of my life” while walking through campus, working out at the gym and now a days hook it up to the stereo in my car.

Music is definitely a huge part of my life and I love how I am able to put all my classic vinyl on my IPod. With out music I would definitely not survive the daily obstacles. On the way to school sitting in traffic it’s a must to plug in my IPod and listen to some Beach house or Fleet Foxes to keep me from killing stupid drivers, on my way to work I like to listen to something a little more upbeat like Phoenix or Girltalk to get me pumped for the long day ahead and right when I get home it’s time to put on some Kinks or the Beatles on vinyl to unwind from my busy day. One way I still haven’t listened to music is on the classic 8 tape but I will one dayJ I love that I am able to still appreciate music the way my parents used to listen to it and even my grandparents. I am such an old soul and I love I truly love that new record stores are opening up left and right and surviving this economy. Every time I set foot into a record store I never know what I am going to find. It’s like going on a treasure hunt for the best deals and the best records in the best condition. Every day is such an adventure and I love having a soundtrack for every occasion.

Music: A Part of Our Daily Lives

Whether we realize it or not, music is a huge part of our lives. How many times can you turn on the television without hearing music in the background? Or how about driving in your car? More times than not, you probably have the music on.

I love music. I am constantly looking for new music to listen to. But it wasn't too long ago where I was very stubborn and narrow minded about my music. I listened to a very small category of music, and if you didn't like it, I considered your taste in music bad. It wasn't until a friend of mine decided to share some of his music. I instantly fell in love with it. The ironic part was, I would make fun of him for the very same music I came to love.

I couldn't get enough of his music. I would constantly ask him for new artists and more music. I started asking my other friends what they listened to. Suddenly, I went from just a few hours of music on my play-list to several days.

I have days of music, and I am constantly listening to it. Are there positive effects to it? In a recent article I read, music makes you smarter, enhances your creativity, and reduces stress. Sounds like a whole lot of good to me. But what about the negative effects? Surely something this good must have some sort of draw back, but the only thing that could really be called negative, is the lyrics and messages artists try to convey.

So I'll make a proposal to all of you who don't listen to music that often. Try it out. Put on some tunes the next time you study, and see if you do better. Crank the stereo in your car a little bit more and see if that long drive to school seems shorter. If you really don't like music and enjoy the silence, go back to your old habits. I am just asking you to try it out.
